The Seasons of the Church

We are now in Ordinary Time.

The Church Calendar includes two periods of Ordinary Time: an extended period between Pentecost and Advent, and a much shorter time between Candlemas and Ash Wednesday. Ordinary time allows for more uninterrupted reading of scripture in sequence, for the exploration of other themes such as creation and the environment, and for creative responses to the Saints' Days that occur at this time. This longer period of Ordinary Time finishes when we reach the Season of Advent on 27 November this year, at the start of the next Christian year, when the Church looks forward to celebrating the birth of Christ.
